On 1 November 2021, the Lausanne Olympic Museum hosted a ceremony for PI President Pierre Zappelli. In the Museum's auditorium, in the presence of the highest civil and cantonal authorities and IOC President Thomas Bach, the Club Lausanne appointed Pierre Zappelli as Honorary President of the Club. Before him, only Jean Presset had received this honour.
The programme of the interventions, of high level, saw the President of the Club Philippe Cottet, the members Françoise Zweifel and Eliane Borter who made a nice presentation of Pierre Zappelli's life and career, the representative of the sport municipality, Emilie Moeschler, and the conclusion by the IOC President Thomas Bach who underlined the excellent relationship between the Olympic Committee and Panathlon International. All this was interspersed with the notes of the internationally renowned pianist Nino Kupreishvili.
A very emotional and involving event that has rewarded our President, first as panathlete of Lausanne, then as President of the District Switzerland and Fürstentum Liechtenstein and finally as President of Panathlon International committed to the diffusion of the values of the Movement and for a greater recognition at international level. A well-deserved praise to his skills and his dedication to the panathletic cause.

In Milan at the Auditorium LaVerdi, Italian sport celebrated its stars with the awarding of the Gold Collars, the highest honour of Italian sport.
Vittorio Adorni, President of Panathlon International from 1996 to 2004 received this important recognition for his long career and sporting merits.
From Panathlon International the warmest congratulations for this achievement that rewards not only a great Champion, but also a great Man and Panathlete committed to the diffusion of positive values of sport.

On 23 and 24 September, transnational meeting of EPOSM (Evidence-based Prevention Of Sporting-Related Match-Fixing) organisation took place. This meeting took place at the headquarters of Play Fair Code (PFC), located in the heart of the beautiful city of Vienna-Austria.
The CEO, Severin Moritzer, welcomed us all to the PFC meeting room. The meeting was held in a hybrid setup, about ten people were present and the others were digitally switched on, not the ideal way but still doable.
Several partners of the Erasmus + project participated, Panathlon International (Prof. Yves Van den Auweele and Patrick Van Campenhout, PFC, Utrecht University, Ghent University, University of Loughbourough, University of Lausanne, ICES (Centre Ethics in Sport), the National Olympic Committee of Croatia, Foundation for Sport Integrity and IRIS (Institut de relations Internationales et Strategies).
On the first day, each partner presented their state of play and action plan, as well as an update on the workshops. The partners also gave their overview of the strategy for the promotion of this project.
The elaboration of next month's Multiplier Event was widely discussed. The international Symposium that will take place in Lausanne on 15 and 16 November will be the highlight of this project. A strong physical participation is expected, but the hybrid set-up is seen as an added value to promote this important project as much as possible.
The proposal to organise a meeting between all actors and the international federations after the event at "La Maison du Sport" also situated in Lausanne could ensure good networking.
After the first day, a pleasant tour of beautiful Vienna was organised on foot with a very good guide, followed by a nice dinner in one of the famous restaurants where you could eat authentic "Schnitzel", a real winner.
Day two started with the timing of the event and the composition of the panel, it was going to be a good mix of different speakers, each with their own point of view. Interesting discussions took place in relation to the book and document that will be produced and communicated after the event.
I suggested that perhaps a 'teaser' could be produced of this project and shown on all social media. It would be a short presentation of the project to increase the curiosity of actors.
At the end of the afternoon, the decisions were formulated and everyone was thanked for their time and effort. Everyone received their further assignment and Stef will continue to follow it up.

On September 23, 2021 in Bled, Slovenia, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel officially launched the HealthyLifestyle4All (HL4A) initiative in conjunction with the opening of European Week of Sport.
Panathlon International was represented by former IB member and delegate Paul Standaert.
On 23rd and 24th of Septembers Panathlon International was represented at the start of the 7th edition of the EWOS (European Week of Sport).
This annual event is carried by the EU country that takes over the presidency of the EU during that period.
The partnership of Panathlon International in EWOS is an initiative of past president Giacomo Santini. It has grown considerably over the years in terms of content. From a rather modest contribution in 2016, Panathlon’s contribution has gradually grown into an increasingly strong commitment to propagate the objectives of EWOS.
A growing number of Panathlon clubs are using this European initiative to develop local initiatives and to set up physical activities. In addition, the focus is often on ‘sport for all’ and the integration of disabled people and social target groups.
This is what Panathlon stands for and why so many people take up an active membership with our unique association.
This year in Bled, Slovenia, former international board member Paul Standaert was the representative of President Zappelli at the kick-off meeting of EWOS 2021.
At that location, Paul Standaert was able to explain the mission of Panathlon International to the European top officials, as among others, European Commissioner Marya Gabriel, MEP Tomazs Frankowski, Director of EAC Sport Floor Van Houdt and various representatives of International sports organisations as the ENOC (European National Olympic Committee), EUFA and others.
Panathlon’s participation in EWOS is highly appreciated. In2021, fifteen clubs also organized educational, informative, and sporting initiatives in various European cities.
Sport activities in schools, sports activities with club members, sports activities for young people (tennis, basketball, cycling, swimming for children with autism), a seminar on inequality in women's cycling, to the submission of a candidate for a be@active Education Award. The latter about a school for children with autism where sport is thé way to success in study.
In all these great initiatives, the commitment and know-how of our local club members proved to be the decisive factor in the success of these events.
We thank our members and dare to encourage them to continue these initiatives, to multiply even more. In this way we all will succeed in resonating the message and mission of Panathlon on an international scale.
Paul Standaert
