Panathlon International

Rapallo, 6 May 2026 – The General Secretariat of Panathlon International, at Villa Queirolo in Rapallo, was delighted to welcome a delegation from the Switzerland and Principality of Liechtenstein District, led by President Peter Wüthrich.

The guests were welcomed by International President Giorgio Chinellato, First Vice-President of Panathlon International Stefano Giulieri, Secretary General Simona Callo and the staff of the General Secretariat.

The Swiss delegation comprised, in addition to President Wüthrich, Hansjörg Wyss, Vice-President of the CH-FL District, Ivan Degliesposti, President of the Panathlon Club Lugano, and Sandra Wiedmer and Philippe Cottet, members of the CH-FL District Council.

The visit provided an important opportunity to get to know the Panathlon International headquarters at close quarters, to gain a deeper understanding of the tasks and activities carried out daily by the General Secretariat, and to share the Movement’s international activities. Attention was paid to the topics of communication, the dissemination of projects, and training to support the Clubs.

Following the official meeting, after a toast at the headquarters, a convivial dinner was held at the Rapallo Golf Club, organised by the President of the Panathlon Club Chiavari-Tigullio, Fabrizio Pagliettini. The evening was also attended by Giorgio Costa, President of District Italy; Germano Tabaroni, Governor of Area 5 Liguria; Adelindo Molinari, President of the Panathlon Club Rapallo-Tigullio Occidentale; along with several members of the Club.

The meeting took place in an atmosphere of great cordiality and friendship, confirming the spirit of sharing that unites Panathletes and offering a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the ties between the Italy District and the District Switzerland and Principality of Liechtenstein.

A significant moment of dialogue and institutional solidarity, with eyes already turned towards the next joint event: the international events in Ghent. 

The International Board of Panathlon International met online on 30 April, from 2.00 pm to 6.30 pm, to examine and deliberate on a number of issues of importance to the life of the association and the Movement’s upcoming institutional events.

At the start of the meeting, the Board observed a minute’s silence in memory of Giorgio Piazza, President of the Panathlon Club La Malpensa, and Alfonso Geoffrey Recorder Rental, President of the Mexico City Club, who had recently passed away, recalling their commitment and dedication to Panathlon values.

The Board also examined the International Board’s Activity Report and the General Secretariat’s Organisational Report, approving their contents. After deliberating on the proposal to maintain current membership fees to be submitted to the Assembly, the IB gave its approval for the dispatch of the notice convening the Ordinary Assembly, scheduled to take place in person on 6 June in Ghent, complete with all attached documentation.

During the meeting, attention was also given to the Ethical Charters and the Junior Clubs Regulations, documents which will be sent to the Clubs as soon as possible in view of their presentation to the Assembly. Participation in the Caribbean Games was also discussed, as a further opportunity to raise the Movement’s profile on the international stage.

The meeting then continued with a review of the items on the agenda. Particular attention was paid to an update on the tasks and upcoming commitments related to the Erasmus+ projects, which will involve Panathletes and staff from the General Secretariat in important international activities, particularly in Izmir, Turkey, and in Montenegro.

Subsequently, the Board analyzed Paul Standaert’s report on his participation in the EU Sport Forum, also focusing on the project dedicated to the issue of Hikikomori and on the granting of certain patronages. During the meeting, it was also announced that the President of the Switzerland and Principality of Liechtenstein District would visit the General Secretariat in Rapallo on 6 May, accompanied by a delegation, marking a significant moment of institutional engagement and solidarity.

Finally, considerable attention was given to the organisation of the forthcoming General Assembly and the events scheduled in Ghent, as well as to the preparation of the Flambeau d’Or Award and the Communication Award, significant events that confirm Panathlon International’s commitment to promoting ethics, sporting culture and communication in the service of the Movement’s values.

The meeting concluded following a fruitful discussion, which enabled the group to address numerous strategic issues and prospects for the future.

Le Prix 2026 du Panathlon Club de Lausanne a été décerné au basketteur Gilles Martin. Le club service récompense ainsi un sportif qui contribue à l’avenir du basketball 3x3 et qui transmet des valeurs au-delà du terrain.

Figure emblématique du basket vaudois et suisse, le Lausannois Gilles Martin est un acteur majeur du développement du basketball 3x3, une variante avec des équipes de trois joueurs au lieu de cinq. Le Vaudois s’est imposé comme un pionnier et un leader du projet « Lausanne 3x3 », reconnu sur la scène nationale et internationale. Champion suisse en 2019, 2021, 2023 et 2025, le natif de Vufflens-le-Château a manqué d’un point la qualification pour les Jeux olympiques de Paris 2024.

En lui remettant son Prix 2026, année du 70e anniversaire, le Panathlon Club de Lausanne a salué une personnalité ayant su conjuguer sport de haut niveau, parcours académique et initiatives entrepreneuriales, en mettant plus de vingt années d’expérience humaine, de respect et de solidarité acquises sur les terrains au service des jeunes générations, des entreprises et des institutions. Des valeurs portées par le mouvement panathlonien.

La cérémonie s’est déroulée le 27 avril 2026 au Stade de la Tuilière à Lausanne. En revenant sur son parcours, Gilles Martin (36 ans) a ému une cinquantaine de convives.  Le diplôme a été remis par Oscar Tosato, président de la commission du Prix Panathlon, et Jérôme Genet, nouveau président du club. « Par votre engagement et votre vision, “Magic Gilles” vous contribuez activement à l’avenir du basketball 3x3 et à transmettre des valeurs au-delà du terrain », a relevé Oscar Tosato. Le prix, sous la forme d’un chèque de 1000 francs, a été réceptionné par Merlin Aesbacher, président de la toute nouvelle association « La lettre », qui propose des activités culturelles à des jeunes en foyer.

À noter que le basketball sera l’un des plus de 40 sports présentés gratuitement au public lors des Panathlon Family Games® les 30 et 31 mai 2026 à Vidy. (comm./J.G.)

Club service dont les buts sont de promouvoir la culture et l’éthique sportive, le Panathlon Club Lausanne (PCL) a été fondé en 1956. Il couvre le canton de Vaud, jusqu'aux portes des clubs d'Yverdon-les-Bains et du Chablais. 

Le Prix Panathlon a été remis pour la première fois en 1958. Il récompense une personnalité qui s’est particulièrement distinguée par d’éminentes qualités allant au-delà̀ des performances, dans un esprit fair-play. Depuis, une soixantaine d’hommes, femmes ou équipes ont été honorés. Avant ratification par l’assemblée générale du club, la ou le récipiendaire est désigné par une commission.

Manu Praz (PC Biel-Bienne) et Ivan Degliesposti (PC Lugano) remplacent Hans Roth (PC Olten) et Philippe Cottet (PC Lausanne) au sein du comité du district. Les comptes 2025 se soldent par un résultat réjouissant, avec un bel excédent grâce aux importants efforts d’économie du comité et de l’administration.

Avant l’assemblée officielle du district, le maire de Lucerne, Beat Züsli, et la présidente du Panathlon Club de Lucerne, organisateur de l’événement, Yolanda Ammann, ont adressé leurs messages de bienvenue à l’assemblée. En dressant un état des lieux du sport lucernois actuel, ils ont tous deux posé les bases des exposés qui ont suivi. Les « quatre grands de Lucerne » – la course urbaine de Lucerne, le Swiss City Marathon Lucerne, la régate de Lucerne et l’athlétisme de haut niveau de Lucerne – sont, avec le FC Lucerne, les figures de proue les plus connues du sport de masse et du sport de compétition. Andreas Grüter, directeur de la course urbaine, et Reto Schorno, codirecteur du marathon, tous deux membres du PC Lucerne, ont expliqué en détail comment ces quatre événements sportifs collaborent étroitement et se sont regroupés au sein d’une société d’organisation, générant ainsi des synergies et saisissant les opportunités pour relever les défis actuels. Pendant cette présentation d’une demi-heure, on pouvait littéralement sentir l’esprit du Panathlon dans la salle.

22 clubs présents, 10 absents

Le président de district Peter Wüthrich a tout d’abord salué le vice-président de Panathlon International (PI) Stefano Giulieri, l’ancien président de PI Pierre Zapelli et les deux anciens présidents de district Jean-Pierre Largo et Urs Baumgartner. Par ailleurs, 22 clubs étaient représentés sur place, tandis que cinq s’étaient excusés. Le fait que cinq clubs aient été absents sans aucune annonce préalable est décevant et, selon Wüthrich, très regrettable.  Le message central de Wüthrich lors de son discours de bienvenue : « Les valeurs du Panathlon sont aujourd’hui plus importantes que jamais. Je vous invite tous à vous attaquer davantage aux objectifs du Panathlon et à les mettre en œuvre grâce au réseautage et à l’union de nos forces. »

Au nom de PI, Stefano Giulieri a encouragé les clubs à participer impérativement à l’assemblée générale extraordinaire des 5 et 6 juin 2026 à Bruges / Gand (Belgique). Les clubs italiens prévoient de modifier leurs statuts afin de renforcer encore davantage leur pouvoir et d’acquérir une position dominante non tolérable au sein du mouvement Panathlon. C'est avec plaisir qu'il a remis à Wüthrich un précieux plateau en verre de Merano pour saluer l'engagement dynamique et fort du district.

Dans son rapport annuel, le président Wüthrich a salué les performances prometteuses et « exceptionnelles » des athlètes suisses, mais aussi les réalisations des clubs Panathlon dans leurs régions. Il ne comprend absolument pas que Swiss Olympic ait rétrogradé Panathlon Suisse au rang d’organisation partenaire avec des exigences plus strictes pour les interpellations, la suppression de l’indemnité de 2 000 CHF et l’inéligibilité au Conseil exécutif de SO. « À l’heure actuelle, alors que le sport suisse vise de grands objectifs comme les Jeux olympiques d’hiver de 2038, le credo doit être : ensemble, nous sommes forts ; ensemble, nous voulons viser et atteindre des objectifs ambitieux. Ce déclassement a eu exactement l’effet inverse. Un mauvais signal ! » Il a également exprimé beaucoup d’éloges à l’égard de la conférence des comités de Gümligen et des forums sportifs de Soleure et de Bâle, ainsi que des Family Games à Lausanne.

Bénéfice malgré une provision

Grâce à une politique d’austérité rigoureuse menée par le comité de district et l’administration, la responsable financière Inge Lichtsteiner a pu présenter un bénéfice de 2 484 CHF. Ce résultat est d’autant plus réjouissant que 10 000 CHF ont été provisionnés pour la réalisation et la mise en œuvre d’un concept de communication moderne. Le budget de l’année en cours prévoit également un bénéfice net de 2 800 CHF. 

Pour des raisons statutaires, des changements interviennent au sein du comité. Hans Roth se retire après huit ans au comité, soit la durée maximale autorisée par les statuts. Philippe Cottet a également décidé de se retirer après six ans de travail au comité. Dans une brève allocution, Peter Wüthrich a salué les mérites de ses deux collègues panathlètes et les a remerciés pour leur engagement. Pour leur succéder, les deux Panathlètes Manu Praz et Ivan Degliesposti couvriront respectivement les régions de Suisse romande et du Tessin au sein du comité. Les autres membres du comité, Sandra Wiedmer et Hansjörg Wyss, mais aussi la responsable financière, Inge Lichtsteiner, la responsable du secrétariat, Gina Hagmann-Weber, le consultant Beat Zurflüh ainsi que le webmaster Martin Heim ont été confirmés dans leurs fonctions par les délégués sous les applaudissements. Après la régularisation d’une clause statutaire mineure, les délégués ont applaudi avec joie l'élection de Peter Wüthrich au poste de président de district pour quatre années supplémentaires.

Les manifestations suivantes constituent les temps forts du programme annuel 2026 : 

•    Forum du sport de Bâle (lundi 4 mai 2026) 

•    Family Games de Lausanne (samedi 30 et dimanche 31 mai 2026) 

•    Conférence du comité à Bienne (vendredi 28 août 2026) 

•    Forum du sport de Soleure (lundi 2 novembre 2026)  

Par ailleurs, l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre du concept de communication ainsi que le concept « Promotion du sport et de l’activité physique en Suisse 2040 », élaboré par Swiss Olympic et l’OFSPO, constituent les axes prioritaires des travaux du comité. 

La prochaine assemblée de district aura lieu le 17 avril 2027 dans l’Oberland bernois. Peter Wüthrich a clôturé l’assemblée de district en remerciant chaleureusement l’organisateur, le PC Lucerne, sous la responsabilité de Peter Regli.

There was great enthusiasm and an extraordinary turnout for the Panathlon Clubs Projects Showcase: a total of 43 projects were presented by clubs from all over the world, providing concrete evidence of the vitality, passion and spirit of service that drive Panathlon International.

The initiative, conceived as a genuine showcase of Panathlon values – rather than a competition – exceeded all expectations, making it necessary to expand the exhibition space. This result highlights the quality and variety of the projects implemented to benefit local communities.

During the meeting on Friday 24 April, the Commission responsible for the project defined the next operational steps, launching the project analysis phase, organised by geographical area, which will lead to the final exhibition scheduled for June.

A warm and sincere thank you to all the participating Clubs: with their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment, they are making a decisive contribution to making this initiative one of the most significant moments in the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of Panathlon International.

The winners of the Henrique Nicolini Communication Award 2024/2025 have been officially announced, following the evaluation of the entries received by the General Secretariat within the deadlines set out in the Regulations.

The selection process was carried out by the Examination Committee, comprising Giacomo Santini (Head of the Communication Award), Luigi Innocenzi (Vice-President), Carlos De Leon (International Councillor), Andrea Sbardellati (member of the CRC) and Filippo Grassia (Head of Communication), which identified the most deserving projects in the three competition categories.

In the Print and Print Media category, the award went to Florence (Italy). In the Internet/Social Media category, the award went to Buenos Aires (Argentina), whilst in the TV and Radio category, the award was given to Wallonie-Brussels (Belgium).

The selected projects stood out for their quality, communicative effectiveness and ability to interpret the values of the Award, offering concrete examples of modern, incisive communication capable of generating impact.

Congratulations to the participating Clubs for their excellent work and for their contribution to the promotion of an increasingly effective and innovative culture of communication.

The awards ceremony will take place in Ghent on Saturday 6 June 2026, at the start of the Gala Dinner, and will provide an opportunity for people to come together and share in celebrating the achievements and the value of the best practices in the field of communication.

9 April 2026 - Panathlon International is preparing for a moment of great significance: the 23rd International Congress, to be held in Ghent (Belgium) from 4 to 7 June 2026, marking the 75th anniversary of the Association’s commitment to promoting ethics and values in sport.

The recent webinar offered a comprehensive preview of the Congress, highlighting its vision and structure. The event brought together representatives from all over the world, reinforcing Panathlon’s international dimension and its role within the Olympic Movement and the European institutional context.

The programme was designed to combine tradition and innovation.

The first day was dedicated to sports diplomacy, youth engagement and governance, exploring the role of sport as a tool for dialogue, inclusion and cooperation between cultures.

Particular attention was paid to young people, not only as participants but as future ambassadors of sporting values.

The second day addressed key issues such as integrity and good governance in sport, with contributions from international institutions, the academic world and industry experts. This reflects Panathlon International’s growing commitment to the global debate on transparency, ethics and accountability in sport.

Alongside the Congress, the Best Practices Exhibition was also launched, inviting Clubs and Districts to present their projects and their impact on the local community. The contributions gathered will be compiled into a digital handbook, creating a shared repository of experiences and best practices.

The Ghent Congress represents not only a celebration of 75 years of history, but above all a strategic opportunity to look to the future, strengthen international cooperation and reaffirm Panathlon International’s mission: to promote sport as a tool for education, ethics and social development.
